PLEDGE TO REDUCE PLASTIC!

With efforts outlined by the Prime Minister for a plastic-free future in supermarket aisles, Polar Krush, based in Northumberland, has announced plans to implement further environmental strategies to help freeze the increasing levels of plastic globally.

Environmental sustainability has always been high on the Polar Krush agenda. The company have championed multi-use ‘Paw’ cups across their domestic and international territories, allowing families to refill rather than use single-use plastic cups. They are also evaluating alternative materials for straws. The crack down on plastic straws has had global backing after research showed it takes 500 years* for a single plastic straw to biodegrade.

Alongside helping customers to make more environmentally conscious decisions, Polar Krush has committed to reducing the amount of plastic being used during distribution from its North East factory.  In 2018 the company is introducing recyclable cartons and collapsible bags in place of old fashioned plastic bottles to deliver the brand’s unique sugar free concentrate to their clients across the globe. The Polar Krush drink is delivered to suppliers as a concentrate, meaning six litres of finished product can be produced for every one litre shipped, minimising packaging waste further.

Paul Goldfinch, managing director at Polar Krush, said, “Our customers are predominantly children and families and as a company we care about protecting the world that they are inheriting.

“2018 is our 20th year and the core characteristics of our brand; “natural”, “packed with flavour”, “healthy” have remained at the heart of everything that we do throughout. In 2017 we introduced the world’s first sugar free iced drink, made using Stevia leaf to act as a natural sweetener, as a direct response to the rising obesity crisis and we want to continue to put our customers first with our increased environmental initiatives.

“With plastic use being a global issue, the use of reusable Paw cups will help us to limit our environmental impact and we are testing customer demand for recyclable PLA cups, giving a helping paw to our mascot Hudson the polar bear and his family in the arctic too!”
